150th anniversary of the Italian Postal Service- Stamp issue

San Marino RTV on satellite stamp issue

A satellite with the inscription “SM TV” which observes the world in its wholeness. This is the symbolic image chosen for the stamp dedicated to the television channel of the Republic of San Marino. It arrived “in the space” on June 13th of last year, the television directed by Carmen Lasorella, and that will be now celebrated from the philatelic world. It’s a new and exciting adventure for the headquarters of SM TV located in Viale Kennedy in San Marino. It has been established in 1991 and went on air in 1993.

Royal Mail heralds opening of London 2012 Paralympic Games with historic Mini Sheet

Royal Mail will issue a second special London 2012 mini-sheet of four stamps to coincide with the spectacular opening of the London 2012 Paralympic Games on 29 August.
Royal Mail will also become the first postal administration, whose country is hosting the Games, to issue a set of stamps to celebrate the start of the Paralympic Games.
Around 4,200 athletes from 160 countries are expected to attend with 471 medal events on the programme, spread across 20 sports.

A single example of the elusive ‘plate 77 Penny Red’ has been sold by rare stamp and collectibles dealer, Stanley Gibbons, to a private client seeking portfolio diversification.
Just two months after acquiring a rare example of the legendary ‘plate 77 Penny Red’, described as “the finest used example in existence inside or outside a museum” by Stanley Gibbons Director of Great Britain Philately, the company has announced its sale to a private client in Australasia for £550,000.

Jersey’s Butterflies & Moths III Stamp issue

Butterflies and moths are well studied in Jersey, the first records having been made over 150 years ago. Global climate change is thought to be the cause of a remarkable number of French and southernEuropean species spreading north and being recorded in the Channel Islands and the UK. Some are vagrants in ones and twos but others have become established here during the past decade or so creating an exciting new opportunity for lepidopterists in Jersey studying these beautiful insects.
Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing Noctua fimbriata
A rather prosaic name contrasts with the dramatic black and orange colouring of this large nocturnal moth. It is common in high summer but is not often seen during the day, although it might be inadvertently disturbed in a sheltered position where it will be aestivating – the summer equivalent of hibernating.

200th Anniversary of the establishment of the Red River Settlement commemorated on a Canadian stamp

Thomas Douglas, the 5th Earl of Selkirk, dreamed of offering Scottish and Irish farmers their own land to work and encouraging western expansion. That dream became a reality in 1812, when the first wave of settlers reached Assiniboia—or the Red River Settlement, as it would come to be known.
While the settlers expected an unpopulated wilderness, they found established Aboriginal, trader communities, hardship and uneasy loyalties. Those Red River settlers planted the first grain crops in the prairies and built relationships with neighbouring Aboriginals. Two hundred years later, the original settlement is the City of Winnipeg. The stamp we issue today honours both the dream and the subsequent growth of our country that it inspired.

Europa 2012 Stamp Issue – Visit Aland

Every year since 1956, the European postal administrations under the PostEurop umbrella produce stamps that adhere to a common theme but have been interpreted in their own way. This diversity, along with the inclusion of the Europa logo, makes the series one of the most collected in the world. Past themes have included gastronomy, forests and children’s books but 2012 theme is ‘Visit’.
