Åland Post now launches online auction house!

A new web-based auction house, Åland Auctions, is has now been launched. The auction house operates, above all, on the international market for various types of philatelic material and other related collectibles. The first auction is scheduled to be conducted in November after which two to three auctions will be held annually.

Bird of the Year – Partridge

Australian Bush Babies

Bush Babies II features five more young Australian animals – platypus, echidna, brush-tailed possum, kookaburra and wombat. AAT Mountains

These stamps continue the Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) Landscapes series which began with the iceberg issue in 2011. The mountains and mountain ranges featured reveal the beauty and grandeur of the landscape.

Antarctica is the highest continent on earth and Mt McClintock, in the eastern sector of the AAT is its highest mountain. Although elevations in excess of 4,000 metres exist in the western sector of the AAT, these are ice domes and generally not considered mountains, but the definition is frequently debated.

The Three Legs of Man

For upwards of a thousand years and probably more, the Three Legs of Man has been the symbol of Manxness yet the origin remains uncertain. In Ireland, stylistic spiral three legs were carved in stone in Neolithic times.

Throughout the world the mythology of threes has played a significant role, notably in India, China, Korea, ancient Greece and Rome – and among native North Americans. It should not be surprising therefore to note that the Manx Parliament consists of three divisions – the House of Keys, Legislative Council and Tynwald.

The 150th Anniversary of Stamp Issuance in Hong Kong!

This favourable habitat is home to a great variety of insects, many of which are rare species. As a sequel to the first series titled “Hong Kong Insects” launched on 16 July 2000, Hongkong Post releases special stamps called “Hong Kong Insects II” to showcase six precious species found in Hong Kong, with a view to enhancing the public’s understanding of the ecology of local insects and the importance of nature conservation.

Personalities- Antonio Mingote

Cartoonist, writer, journalist and academician, Antonio Mingote, was also an Honorary Postman of the Spanish post and is the character depicted in this stamp which pays tribute to this great master of humour.

Angel Antonio Mingote Barrachina was born in Sitges (Barcelona), in 1919, and died in Madrid in 2012. He spent his childhood between Daroca, Calatayud and Teruel. He was only 17 when he enlisted in the army during the Civil War and when the war came to an end, he studied two years of philosophy and language at the University of Zaragoza and from there joined the Infantry Academy of Guadalajara.
