To celebrate Geelong’s triumphant win over Collingwood in the AFL Grand Final and Manly Warringah Sea Eagles’ victory over the New Zealand Warriors in Sunday’s NRL Premiership, Australia Post is releasing two Souvenir Stamp Sheets each featuring the victorious team.
From October 2011, AFL fans and collectors will have the opportunity to purchase their own piece of premiership history at participating Australia Post retail outlets around the country.

Stamp Collecting Month marvels at the mysterious world of mythical creatures

Australia Post continues the tradition of Stamp Collecting Month (SCM) throughout October with the release of the Mythical Creatures stamp issue. There are five domestic rate (60 cents) stamps and one domestic large letter rate ($1.20) stamp.
The fantastic world of ancient myth and legend is featured in this stamp issue with six mythical creatures including a fairy, troll, mermaid, griffin, unicorn and a dragon. Research found mythical creatures to be one of the most popular themes with children.

Australia Post scores a “hole in one” with golf stamps

One of Australia’s most popular sports, golf, will feature in a new stamp issue coinciding with the hosting of The Presidents Cup at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in November. The stamp issue comprises three domestic rate stamps (60 cents) and two international rate stamps ($1.65 and $2.35). This stamp issue is available from 27 September 2011.
“Australia Post is delighted to celebrate Melbourne’s hosting of The Presidents Cup with this stamp issue,” said Australia Post Philatelic Manager, Michael Zsolt. “The Presidents Cup showcases golf’s best players as well as raising much needed funds for worthwhile charities.”

Austrailia’s Cocos (Keeling) Islands Colours Stamps

The living coral reefs of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands host a huge variety of marine life. This stamp issue gives us a close-up look at this marine wonderland through the photography of Cocos (Keeling) Islands resident Karen Willshaw.
Pulu Keeling National Park is located within the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, and was proclaimed in December 1995. It is Australia’s sixth and smallest Commonwealth National Park and includes the 1.2 square-km land area of North Keeling Island and a marine area extending 1.5km around the island. Named after Captain William Keeling, the island has not been inhabited for any continuous period and is in a natural state. (read more)

Australia Post celebrates 50 years of the World Wide Fund for Nature

Australia Post celebrates the 50th anniversary of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) with the release of its second joint Australian territories stamp issue. There are four domestic-rate (60 cents) stamps depicting animals from Australia, Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands and the Australian Antarctic Territory. This stamp issue is available from 30 August 2011.
“The World Wide Fund for Nature: 50 Years stamp issue marks an important milestone in nature conservation history. The release of these stamps continues a tradition for Australia Post, which has issued more than 30 World Wide Fund for Nature stamps since 1998. The stamps highlight the importance of species preservation and biodiversity,” said Australia Post Philatelic Manager, Michael Zsolt. (read more)

Kings Park Festival is celebrated by Australia Post

Kings Park Festival is celebrated by Australia Post, with its recently released Floral Festivals Australia stamp issue.
The five 60c stamps feature colourful photographic depictions of popular flower species − the gerbera, jacaranda, Australian everlasting, violet and tulip – representing five floral festivals.
“Western Australia has several thousand native plant species, and the Kings Park Festival provides a perfect opportunity to showcase the state’s many beautiful wildflowers. This floral festival is located in a spectacular setting overlooking Perth and is represented on the stamp by the Australian everlasting,” said Australia Post’s Philatelic Manager, Mr Michael Zsolt.

Colonial Heritage – Emerging Identity stamp issue from Australia Post

This stamp issue is the second in a four-year series titled Colonial Heritage, developed to commemorate Australia’s philatelic history. This stamp issue focuses on emerging colonial identity, representing the shift in colonial thinking, reflecting a greater sense of belonging in the “new” homeland.
Kangaroo and Lyrebird
The kangaroo and the lyrebird originally featured in stamps marking the 1888 centenary of New South Wales, the first adhesive commemorative stamp issue to be released worldwide. The kangaroo, flanked by the Sydney flannel flower, was in a one shilling (1/-) brown design; the lyrebird, bordered with waratahs and honeysuckle, was in an eight pence (8d) magenta design. The other Australian colony to feature a kangaroo was South Australia, using it in a blue two-and-a-half (2½d) stamp design released in 1894.

Australasian Antarctic Expedition centenary celebrated by Australia Post

Australia Post is celebrating the centenary of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE) with the release of five domestic rate (60 cents) stamps depicting images from the historic 1911 expedition. This is an Australian Antarctic Territory stamp issue and is available from 2 August 2011.
The AAE left Hobart in December 1911 under the command of Douglas Mawson and returned to Adelaide in February 1914. Mawson was knighted for his achievements during this expedition and is regarded as one of the greatest figures of Antarctic exploration.

The primary objective of Amnesty International is to campaign for the international recognition, respect and protection of human rights.
A charity funded largely by its members and public donations, Amnesty International is independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion. This means it is free to criticise any government’s human rights record without fear or favour and is able to retain a reputation of impartiality and transparency.

MAGNIFICENT Living Australians stamps

What does it mean to be “Living Australian?” The Australian day Council of NSW with the support of Australia Post encouraged Australians from across the country to explore
the theme of “Who We Are” as a nation, by showcasing how they live as Aussies every day through the creative medium of photography.
The response was overwhelming, with 3,350 images submitted in the categories of Community; Pride; Family and Mates; and Freedom. The winning entries, including the overall winner “Best Friends” by Ann Clarke of South Australia, are featured in Living Australian 2011 Stamps Series.
The overall winner: Best Friends.
The bond between man’s best friend and his owner has always been a strong one. Dogs offer companionship, loyalty, and for large numbers of people they also provide a service.
