Monaco Post Will Commemorate The 2012 International Bouquet Competition

The International Bouquet Competition is presided over by H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, and brings together between 100 and 150 participants every year. The 45th Bouquet Competition will take place on 5th and 6th May 2012 on the Casino Terraces.With reference to the 2011 competition, which was on the theme of South Africa, the stamp features a bouquet of protea, plants that are typical of this country.

Monaco’s Circus Festival Stamps

Monaco’s Monacophil 2011 stamp issue

From 2nd to 4th December 2011, Monacophil will welcome 80 stands operated by postal administrations and international stamp dealers. The exhibition will also display 100 worldwide rarities especially coming from the collections ofH.M.Queen Elizabeth II andH.S.H. PrinceAlbert II. The “Office des Emissions de Timbres-Poste”will issue a special block featuring a romantic photo of the wedding of H.S.H. Prince Albert II with CharleneWittstock.

Monaco’s Ascat Grand Prix Stamp

ASCAT, the worldwide society of the leading publisher of catalogues, albums and magazines for stamp collectors, has chosen to award H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco the 2011 ASCAT Grand Prix. Monaco’s 25th Telethon stamp issue

The “25th Telethon” will take place on 2nd and 3rd December 2011. As many European countries, the Principality of Monaco supports this event organised in Monaco by the Association de Promotion et d’Organisation du Téléthon Monaco (OTM). During “MonacoPhil 2011”, the “Office des Emissions de Timbres-Poste” will sell illustrated, numbered envelopes bearing the “Telethon” stamp. Proceeds will go to the OTM.

Bicentenary of the birth of Theophile Gautier stamp issue by Monaco Post

Born in Tarbes in 1811, Théophile Gautier was three years old when his family moved to Paris. He published “Poésies,” his first collection of poems, in 1830. In 1835, in the preface to his novel “Mademoiselle de Maupin”, Gautier protested with vigour and humour against the idealistic excesses of romanticism. He wrote several scenarios of ballets, the most famous of which, “Giselle”, is represented on the stamp behind the character of “Capitaine Fracasse” extracted of the eponymous novel published by Gautier in 1863.

Bicentenary of the birth of Franz Liszt

Franz Liszt, who was born in 1811 and died in 1886, is the embodiment par excellence of a Romantic pianist-composer. Liszt, with Chopin, was the inventor of new virtuosity on an instrument that he approached in a very orchestral way. His major works include the Piano Concerto No.1, Years of Pilgrimage, Hungarian Rhapsodies and the Faust and Dante Symphonies.

150th Anniversary of the birth of Georges Melies commemorated on Monaco Post stamps

Georges Méliès (1861-1938) was a French filmmaker born and died in Paris, and was the creator of the first film studio. He directed more than 500 films, and mastered every step of his work, from the film’s conception to selling copies. Méliès had a profound impact on the world of cinema. He is considered the father of special effects.

Monaco Post’s 50th Anniversary of the first man to travel into our space stamp issue

Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin made history by becoming the first man to travel into outer space. On 12th April 1961, on board the Vostok 1 capsule, he took off from the Tyuratam-Baikonur Cosmodrome (now in Kazakhstan), then completed an orbit of 1 hour 48 minutes around the Earth. He was awarded the title of “Hero of the Soviet Union”, the highest honour of the former USSR.

The commercial section will gather postal administrations and well-known international stamp-dealers. A collective exhibition will be devoted to the philately of the United Kingdom and former colonies.
