Cathedral of Sigüenza stamp issue by Spain

VN:F [1.9.1_1087]
Rating: 5.0/5

Within the Cathedrals issue, a one stamp souvenir sheet is launched devoted to the Cathedral of Sigüenza. The stamp features the main sacristy whilst the souvenir sheet depicts a view of the main facade and the remaining cathedral compound.

The impressive building of the Cathedral can be seen as one approaches the town of Sigüenza. Depending on the position from which it is looked upon it can resemble a fortress when seen from its western façade with its two beautiful battlement towers protecting three 13th century Romanesque facades. The middle one is called the “Gospel” façade and serves as the main entrance to the temple and is crowned by a splendid rosette. The side of the cathedral facing the Plaza Mayor of Sigüenza features a slender tower next to which is attached another impressive rose window that provides light to the cruise. Beneath this rose window there is a neoclassic façade. This rosette together with the upper stained glass windows provides lighting to the inside of the church. The characteristic features of Gothic Cistercian are predominant both in the outside and in the church interior.

Spain issues very elegant Christmas stamps

VN:F [1.9.1_1087]
Rating: 3.6/5

One of the most frequent themes in history of art has to do with Christmas. This event features in early Christian art. However, it is in the Middle Ages when this hagiographic happening acquires greater focus and attention from artists. This iconography has served as stimulus and devotion with significant echo in general belief.

The birth of Jesus has gone beyond time and art expressions. Not surprisingly, the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles gave a double meaning to the profusion of biblical and hagiographic images of this stage in the life of Jesus thus promoting the great event of the coming of the Saviour amongst believers and recreating it in different forms of artistic inspiration whether it be (read more)

A book titled ‘The sacking of Afinsa’ to be published this month

VN:F [1.9.1_1087]
Rating: 4.7/5

With a title fit for a thriller movie “The Sacking of Afinsa”  a book will be on sale on the 28 of October that tries to clarify the Philatelic scandal and finally offer a credible story of the intervention of the philatelic companies Fórum Filatélico and Afinsa that before their unexpected closure by the Spanish authorities on the 9th May 2006  had dedicated themselves for more than 25 years to the philatelic business and philatelic investments in Spain.

The intervention took by surprise all the country with the presumed macro-scandal leaving without their savings almost half a million families. A little more that 1% of the entire population.

After almost five years; with a Government that after the intervention has not cared about the victims of the supposed swindle, with subsidized Organizations of Consumers who have manipulated the affected interests and wills of thousand of innocent victims, with mass media publishing their own theory of the swindle and with a loaded judicial process of irregularities and contradictory sentences,  finally the opportunity of at least finding out part of the truth of the intervention of Afinsa Bienes Tangibles, S.A. appears.

The book is without a doubt a great journalistic investigation carried out by its author, Mila Hernán, one of more  than 190,000 people affected by the intervention of Afinsa, that took place on the 9 of May of the 2006. It seems the truth is finally out there and that the whole intervention was a politically manipulated action!
