50th Anniversary of Pope John XXIII’S Encyclical stamp issue

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the encyclical letter Mater et Magistra of Blessed John XXIII. The encyclical focused for the first time on the problem of social inequalities, with particular reference to the international situation of the time, and the need for a response in light of the demands of justice and fairness. Given the subjects discussed, the document received wide attention even outside the Catholic Church.

Pope Benedict XVI commemorated on San Marino stamp issue

On the 19th June 2011, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI will visit the Republic of San Marino: he will be welcomed by the Captains Regent, and afterwards will celebrate Holy Mass with all the bishops of Emilia-Romagna. 
In the afternoon the Holy Father will meet youngsters from the diocese in Pennabilli. 
San Marino celebrates the Pastoral Visit with the issue of a stamp showing the Pontiff with the Basilica del Santo in the background.

New Joint Issue between Poland and Vatican City

Only six years after his death, John Paul II will be beatified on May 1st. The miraculous healing of French Sr. Marie Simon Pierre Normanda has been offi cially recognized and attributed to his intercession. The process which has led to the beatification of Karol Wojtyla is quite extraordinary since five years are usually required after death before starting a cause for beatification. Nevertheless, Pope Benedict XVI recognized the “reputation of holiness” which surrounded John Paul II, even when he was still alive, and he decided to allow the cause of beatification to begin just a few weeks after his death.
