Centenary of the First World War – Prince Louis II Issued by Monaco Post!

Born in 1870, Louis II, known as the Soldier Prince, volunteered for the French army in 1914. A staff captain in theFifth Army, he took part in the victory of the Marne. As a squadron leader, he distinguished himself at Craonne and the Chemin des Dames on 28th October 1916. In addition to the Croix de Guerre, his heroic conduct earned him promotion to Major General. Louis II left the French army on 27th June 1922 to succeed his father, Prince Albert I.

Ireland Post issued a Stamp Celebrating the Centenary of the Founding of the Irish Citizen Army!

The Irish Citizen Army (Arm Cathartha na hÉireann in Irish), or ICA, was a small group of trained trade union volunteers established in Dublin during the great strike of the Irish Transport and General Workers Union in 1913, known as the Lockout of 1913. The Lockout caused most of Dublin to come to an economic standstill and was marked by vicious rioting between the strikers and the Dublin Metropolitan Police.

Monaco Issued a Stamp Edition for the Centenary of the 1st Monaco Air Rally!

Published in February 1914, the regulations of the Monaco international rally pose a novel challenge held from 1st to 15th April 2014. The rally has seven itineraries each comprising a land-based stretch of 1140 km departing from different towns in Europe and a common maritime stretch of 210 km to Monaco, from Genoa or Marseille. Roland Garros has established himself as the grand winner of this rally by recording the best time in all the itineraries.

Australia Post releases its final issue celebrating the the centenary of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition

This is the fourth and final issue in a four-year program celebrating the centenary of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE).
The stamps follow the same design style across the four years and feature a combination of images depicting the environment, the men, their work and their lives.
