Born in 1870, Louis II, known as the Soldier Prince, volunteered for the French army in 1914. A staff captain in theFifth Army, he took part in the victory of the Marne. As a squadron leader, he distinguished himself at Craonne and the Chemin des Dames on 28^th October 1916. In addition to the Croix de Guerre, his heroic conduct earned him promotion to Major General. Louis II left the French army on 27^th June 1922 to succeed his father, Prince Albert I.

The Irish Citizen Army (Arm Cathartha na hÉireann in Irish), or ICA, was a small group of trained trade union volunteers established in Dublin during the great strike of the Irish Transport and General Workers Union in 1913, known as the Lockout of 1913. The Lockout caused most of Dublin to come to an economic standstill and was marked by vicious rioting between the strikers and the Dublin Metropolitan Police.

Published in February 1914, the regulations of the Monaco international rally pose a novel challenge held from 1^st to 15^th April 2014. The rally has seven itineraries each comprising a land-based stretch of 1140 km departing from different towns in Europe and a common maritime stretch of 210 km to Monaco, from Genoa or Marseille. Roland Garros has established himself as the grand winner of this rally by recording the best time in all the itineraries.
