September 3, 2012 marked the 60th anniversary of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province. It is the only autonomous prefecture for the Korean ethnic group and the largest Korean-populated area in China.

Characterised by metropolitan hustle and bustle, Hong Kong is also blessed with a countryside rich in ecological resources. This favourable habitat is home to a great variety of insects, many of which are rare species. As a sequel to the first series titled “Hong Kong Insects” launched on 16 July 2000, Hongkong Post releases special stamps called “Hong Kong Insects II” to showcase six precious species found in Hong Kong, with a view to enhancing the public’s understanding of the ecology of local insects and the importance of nature conservation.

Gibraltar is commemorating the bicentenary of the birth of Charles John Huffam Dickens (7 February 1812 – 9 June 1870) with a wonderful issue alongside institutions from all over the world, most notably the ‘Dickens 2012’ official celebration in the United Kingdom.
Charles Dickens was an English writer, generally considered to be the greatest novelist of the Victorian period and responsible for some of English literature’s most iconic novels and characters. During his lifetime Dickens’ works enjoyed unprecedented popularity and fame, and they remain popular today. It was in the twentieth century, however, that his literary genius was fully recognized by critics and scholars.

The battle was the most important in Charles Robert’s war to unify the country. On 15 June 1312 the king defeated the army of Amade Aba’s sons in a battle by Rozgony, near Kassa. A depiction of the battle taken from the Chronicon Pictum (National Széchényi Library) can be seen on the stamp.

To commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Wideawake Airfield the Ascension Island Post Office is releasing a souvenir sheet featuring two classic aircraft, one from the 1940’s and one from the new millennium. Before work started on the airfield this area was home to Booby and Sooty (Wideawake) Tern colonies, hence the hill on the right side being called Booby Hill and the airfield called Wideawake.

Attila Dargay’s illustrations for the cartoon Vuk can be seen on the commemorative covers which will be a special philatelic edition. The first four denominations (1 Ft,1 Ft, 2 Ft and 2 Ft) of the stamps series titled “Figures from the Hungarian Cartoon Vuk 1982” will appear as stamps on one of the covers and the last three denominations (4 Ft, 6 Ft and 8 Ft) on the other.
