Gibraltar is commemorating the bicentenary of the birth of Charles John Huffam Dickens (7 February 1812 – 9 June 1870) with a wonderful issue alongside institutions from all over the world, most notably the ‘Dickens 2012’ official celebration in the United Kingdom.
Charles Dickens was an English writer, generally considered to be the greatest novelist of the Victorian period and responsible for some of English literature’s most iconic novels and characters. During his lifetime Dickens’ works enjoyed unprecedented popularity and fame, and they remain popular today. It was in the twentieth century, however, that his literary genius was fully recognized by critics and scholars.

This year the Ascension Island Post Office has released 4 Christmas stamps that illustrate scenes from A Christmas Carol, to mark the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Dickens, the greatest novelist of the Victorian period.

The striking Miniature Sheet comprises four First Class stamps bearing illustrations by Hablot Knight Brown, aka Phiz, taken from the original publications. It also has a quote from Dickens in its border, together with his key dates and a facsimile of his signature.

Charles Dickens is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated authors of all time. His appeal shows no signs of fading more than 140 years after his death, with his books remaining in print all around the world.
Alderney have chosen to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens with stamps depicting original illustrations from Oliver Twist by George Cruikshank (1792-1878), one of the artists with whom Dickens personally collaborated.

Mr Bumble, Mr Pickwick and Mr Micawber - all instantly recognisable creations of Charles Dickens, one of Britain’s greatest novelists. To celebrate the bicentenary of Dickens’ birth Royal Mail is to celebrate his life and work of with ten new stamps issued on 19 June.
