It’s the oldest and one of the most famous railway networks in the world, now the London Underground celebrates its 150th birthday on Royal Mail’s first stamp issue of 2013.
Issued on 9 January, London Underground features ten stamps; six charting the history of the network, alongside a miniature sheet of four long-format stamps focusing on the design heritage of its iconic posters.

The stamps in this issue focuses on the outside area of centuries-old railway stations, which are historical and architectural landmarks: Luz and Júlio Prestes Stations (São Paulo) and Central do Brasil (Rio de Janeiro). The pattern of each stamp is enriched with a vignette, the common theme of which is a coffee tree branch with the flower and fruit, a strong economic mainstay at the time and a basic element in the origin of the stations.
