The National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland (ÍSÍ) was founded on January 28th 1912 under the name of The National Sports Association of Iceland. ÍSÍ is the largest mass movement in Iceland and the only overall association of the Icelandic sports movement. One of ÍSÍ‘s main tasks is to strengthen, coordinate and organize sports activities in Iceland while also promoting the development of all kinds of sports, both public and elite. All sport and youth organizations in Iceland are memebers of ÍSÍ. The Association engages in robust activities promoting education and quality enhancement within the movement. The National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland is focusing on three main aspects: Sport for All, Elite Sports and Education.

Monaco’s Tennis Stamp Issue

From 14th to 22nd April 2012, the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters will play host to the international tennis elite. Last year, Rafael Nadal achieved a real feat by winning his 7th consecutive victory, and a record number of 125,000 spectators attended the tournament.

Canada Post Scores Hat Trick With Three Winnipeg Jets Postage Stamps

The Hon. Steven Fletcher, Minister of State (Transport), Deepak Chopra, President and CEO of Canada Post, and Jim Ludlow, President and CEO of True North Entertainment, today unveiled three Winnipeg Jets™ Picture Postage™ stamps to help celebrate the return of the National Hockey League (NHL) to Winnipeg.

The first stamp design features the new team logo of a fighter jet poised over a red maple leaf, against a solid blue background. The next design features the secondary logo, an image of crossed hockey sticks resting on military-style wings which also incorporates a red maple leaf. The third stamp highlights the first goal scored on home ice at the MTS Centre by Jets player Nik Antropov on October 9, 2011.  (read more)

Milan Champion of Italy stamp issue from San Marino Post

This is the first team in the world in terms of the number of International titles won, but from the 2003-2004 football season the national victory was missing, and so Shield number 18, won on the field very early on with respect to the end of the championship, acquires an even more special meaning. A victory born from conviction, tenacity and the abnegation of a solid compact group. On the stamp the fans’ tribute to the San Siro stadium “lit” by the home colours.

UCI Road World Championships Stamp Issue from Denmark

The UCI Road World Championships 2011 are being held in Denmark.

Denmark is hosting the world championships in road cycling for the first time in 55 years. To mark the occasion, a stamp has being issued featuring a rider wearing the famous multi-coloured world champion’s jersey. The stamp was designed by the graphic artist Leo Scherfig.

Australia Post scores a “hole in one” with golf stamps

One of Australia’s most popular sports, golf, will feature in a new stamp issue coinciding with the hosting of The Presidents Cup at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in November. The stamp issue comprises three domestic rate stamps (60 cents) and two international rate stamps ($1.65 and $2.35). This stamp issue is available from 27 September 2011.

“Australia Post is delighted to celebrate Melbourne’s hosting of The Presidents Cup with this stamp issue,” said Australia Post Philatelic Manager, Michael Zsolt. “The Presidents Cup showcases golf’s best players as well as raising much needed funds for worthwhile charities.”

Solheim Cup – 55c Stamp

On September 15, 2011, An Post issued a stamp to commemorate the Solheim Cup women’s golf competition being played in Ireland.

The Solheim Cup is being staged at Killeen Castle, County Meath, from September 19–25. It is the highest profile international golf event for women and is the largest women’s sporting event ever to come to Ireland.
