Russia and Switzerland have maintained diplomatic relations for 200 years. During the Second World War, those relations were briefly severed, but were restored after the war ended and have been stable ever since. In recent decades, diplomatic relations have taken on a different dimension, and can now be described as a long-term partnership. The two countries are forging ever closer ties and contact between Swiss and Russian people is steadily increasing, thanks to the ever-growing number of reciprocal arrange- ments in the cultural, higher education, sport and tourism spheres. To mark the milestone anniversary of these ties, a joint issue is being published by Swit- zerland and Russia – each bearing a famous national landmark. (read more)

Cities of Switzerland is Switzerland’s New Issue!

All good things come in … nines! Switzerland’s six biggest cities adorned the “Cities of Switzerland” series of stamps in 2012 and 2013. This year, it’s the turn of the smallest of the biggest: St Gallen, Lucerne and Lugano. Three students from the graphic design course at the Basel School of Design have drawn their own impressions of the three cities.

Switzerland Post has Issued a Stamp Edition for the Special Olympics 2014!

Special Olympics is the world’s biggest sports movement for people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968, by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the organization is now represented by more than 4 million athletes in 170 countries. Special Olympics Switzerland was established in 1995 and now operates as an independent foundation.

Switzerland wants to abandon nuclear energy and minimize its consumption of fossil fuels. It also plans to reduce its dependence on energy generated abroad. This will create new jobs. Various strategies are in place for this energy revolution, which make plans up until 2050. (read more)
