Eusébio Forever Issued by the Portuguese Post!

His debut with the red sweater was on May 23rd, 1961, still in the reserves, against Atlético CP. Shortly after, on June 1st, he debuted in the first team, in a match for the Cup of Portugal, against Vitória de Setúbal. That same year he played his first match for the national team, on October 8th, against the team from Luxembourg. Eusébio spent fifteen seasons with Benfica, between 1960/61 and 1974/75, where he played 614 matches and scored 638 goals, being the highest scorer in the club. He was a Portuguese international player for over a decade, playing 64 games and scoring 41 goals, and helped the national team achieve third place in the World Championship in 1966, being the top scorer of the championship. The 3rd May 2014 marks the commemoration of the five hundredth anniversary of the birth of Blessed Friar Bartolomeu dos Mártires, Archbishop of Braga, and one of the prominent personalities of the sixteenth century. He was born in 1514 in the parish of Mártires in Lisbon, patronym which he adopted, and at the age of fifteen he entered the Order of Preachers, professing the Dominican religious life in the São Domingos Convent of Lisbon in 1529. Florbela Espanca was seven years old when she wrote the poem A Vida e Morte (Life and Death), revealing very early a choice of subjectmatter that, along with love, would define her. A great name of Portuguese poetry, she was born in Vila Viçosa on December 8th, 1894. (read more)
