This Spanish cinemas series is devoted to Luis García Berlanga and Rafael Azcona, two prominent names in the Spanish film industry.

Film director Luis Garcia Berlanga (Valencia, 1921-Madrid, 2010) studied in the Instituto de Investigaciones y Experiencias Cinematográficas (Institute for Research and Cinematic Experiences) in Madrid, an institution created in 1947 offering training in the various disciplines within film production. He soon made his debut as film director and in 1951 directed Esa pareja feliz (That happy couple) in collaboration with Juan Antonio Bardem. Both filmmakers are considered to be the main innovators of Spanish cinema after the war. Amongst the first films of García Berlanga are Bienvenido Mr. Marshall, which reflects the humbleness of the inhabitants of a small town hoping to be rescued by a visiting American delegation. On February 10, 2011 in Simi Valley, California, the U.S. Postal Service® issued a Ronald Reagan (Forever) commemorative stamp, recognizing the centennial of the birth of Ronald Reagan (1911-2004), America’s 40th President. The stamp issuance is one of a number of centennial events taking place across the nation in 2011 to commemorate Reagan’s life and legacy.

The stamp art by Bart Forbes, Plano, Texas, was created in oil wash on board. It is based on a photograph of Reagan taken in 1985, during his second term as President, at his beloved “Rancho del Cielo” (Ranch in the Sky), near Santa Barbara, California.

The Grand Fair (Grande Bourse) Stamp will be available on the 16th August

The next Grand Fair will be held on Sunday, 2nd October 2011 in Monaco. It is organised by the Monaco Numismatic Association, the Monaco Association of Postcard Collectors and the Monaco Philatelic Union. This biennial event attracts international dealers in the fields of numismatics, philately, postcard collecting and book collecting.

The Greenlandic legend about Kaassassuk (The Orphan) was published as a comic a few years ago.
It was designed by the young Christian Fleischer Rex from Nuuk. This stamp featuring Kaassassuk will represent the third and last part of POST Greenland’s stamp series on Greenlandic comics. This will be Christian Fleischer Rex’s first stamp for POST Greenland.

Spanish cinemas celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Goya Awards

This Spanish cinema series celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Goya Awards and the best film of 2010. It is made up of a souvenir sheet and a stamp.

The Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of Spain awards the Goyas annually in acknowledgement of the best professionals in the film industry in the different categories. These awards were created at the initiative of a group of renowned professionals who wished to level the Spanish film industry with other countries such as Hollywood’s Oscars, Berlin’s Bear, French Cesar Awards French or the Lion of Venice.
