100 Years Ago: Beginning of World War One Issued by Luxembourg Post!

When, on 2 August 1914 World War One broke out in Europe, Luxembourg – which had previously remained neutral – became one of the fi rst victims of German military might. Although they had now occupied the territory, the invaders never interfered in the country‘s internal aff airs. (read more)

Every two years, POST Luxembourg organises a stamp design competition for children and adolescents in primary and secondary schools. The winning design, by age group, is published in the form of a postage stamp and the winner(s) receive a €1,000 prize!

City of Luxembourg – UNESCO!

For many centuries, the City of Luxembourg has played a key role in the history of Europe. It has preserved remnants of its impressive fortifications and its old quaters withing a remarkable natural environment. As s result, UNESCO has included the City of Luxembourg on its list of world heritage sites. At the very heart of the city stands a small fortbuilt by Count Siegfried on a virtually inaccessible rock shortly after the middle of the 10th century. During the 12th century, a surrounding wall was constructed to protect the settlement that had grown near to the castle. (read more)

Luxembourg has Issued a Stamp Edition for the European Elections 2014!

The 2014 European elections will take place between the 22 and 25 May. In the 28 member states, 751 representatives of the European Parliment in Strasbourg will be elected. The representatives are assembled according to the different transnational political groups. (read more)

Following the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, the COL (Luxembourg Olympic Circle) organised a round table aimed at promoting sport in schools. Ady Pierrard, a teacher in the city of Luxembourg, had the idea of organising extracurricular sports in our schools, following the example of USEP, similar organisation in France and LASEL existing in Luxembourg’s secondary schools.
