United Nations 2011 Endangered Species

On 7 September 2011, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) will issue a set of 12 stamps depicting endangered species. These will be the nineteenth set of stamps in UNPA’s multi-year series Endangered Species. The series was launched on 3 March 1993 to highlight the need for the protection of endangered species throughout the world. This year the endangered species feature endangered birds.
UNPA will issue three sheets of 16 stamps, one sheet in each of the three currencies. Four different endangered species will be illustrated on each sheet; hence, 12 species will be covered.

The US$ 0.44 stamps depict the following endangered species: Bali starling (Leucopsar rothschildi) California condor (Gymnogyps californianus) Black-fronted piping-guan (Pipile jacutinga) Japanese crane (Grus japonensis) The CHF 1.00 stamps depict the following endangered species: Philippine eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) Himalayan monal (Lophophorus impejanus) Kakapo (Strigops habroptilus) Black stork (Ciconia nigra) The € 0.70 stamps depict the following endangered species: White-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) Nicobar pigeon (Caloenas nicobarica) Red-fronted parakeet (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae) Black palm cockatoo (Probosciger aterrimus)published July 27th, 2011
