The Inverted Jenny (also known as an Upside Down Jenny or Jenny Invert) is probably the most well known example of rare stamps in the US and worldwide. Typical stamps for first-class mail in the 1910s were 3 cents each. Around this time, the United States Post Office was experimenting with a sort of air-mail, and, upon approval, decided to instate a regular service on May 15, 1918, flying between Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City.
