Neville Bonner AO (1922-99) became the first Aboriginal person to sit in the Australian Commonwealth parliament.

Eddie “Koiki” Mabo (1936-92) challenged the Australian government and won over the rightful ownership of the land he grew up on.

Oodgeroo Noonuccal (1920-93), also known as Kath Walker, was a poet and advocated for citizenship rights for Indigenous people.

Charles Perkins AO (1936-2000), Aboriginal leader and spokesperson, was also Secretary of the Department of Aboriginal Affairs.

Shirley Smith AM (Mum Shirl) (1921-98) was born Colleen Shirley Perry and was well known in Sydney for her assistance to Indigenous families and prisoners.
