African Stamps honour famous Jewish fighters of Apartheid in S. Africa.

Three African nations have simultaneously issued a set of three commemorative postal sheets honoring the most famous Jewish fighters of Apartheid in South Africa.
“This stamp issue acknowledges the extraordinary sacrifices made by Jews to the liberation of their African brethren, and these stamps recognize some of the most significant contributors to global humanity in the 20th century,” reads the text on one of the commemorative sheets.
In the release, Liberia issued stamps honoring Helen Suzman, Eli Weinberg, Esther Barsel and Hymie Barsel. The stamps from Sierra Leone show Yetta Barenblatt, Ray Alexander Simons, Baruch Hirson and Norma Kitson, while the Gambian sheet offers Ruth First, Hilda Bernstein, Lionel “Rusty” Bernstein and Ronald Segal.

South Africa Official World Cup Stamps

Now that the World Cup is over and the new World Cup Champions Spain, continue to enjoy their well deserved win at the competition, we take a look at the last Miniature Sheet and Sheetlet of stamps issued by South Africa Post paying tribute to the tournament.
In the past month, a transformative wave of patriotism and multiracial unity has enveloped South Africa, most outwardly visible in the deluge of national flags fluttering from cars and buildings.

Preview the South Africa railway stamps

South Africa Post will issue on the 25th June 2010 a spectacular railway set of stamps to commemorate the 150 years of Railway (1860-2010) in the country.
The stamps illustrations are of high quality and feautred on the stamps are the very early trains used over a century ago and the new state-of-the art trains currently in operation throughout the country.
- 1860 “Natal” – the first locomotive to run in South Africa. (Preserved on Durban station)
- 1937 Class NGG16 Garratt – the most important class on numerous narrow-gauge lines, with 34 built between 1937 and 1968. Many are running today in Wales, Australia and the USA, following closure of South Africa’s once extensive narrow-gauge empire. (read more)
JOBURG 2010 World Stamp Expo

South Africa will be holding their third International stamp exhibition from the 27th to 31st October 2010. It will be held in the Sandton International Convention Centre, which is located in the heart of a mega shopping mall in Johannesburg.
The location has specifically been chosen to create more interest and increase the profile for philately. Further information on the show can be found via the following website. www.joburg2010stampshow.co.za
South Africa has had a number of International Events during recent years such as the Miss World Competition and the forthcoming World Cup. The Stamp Show promises to be a great success with a lot of efforts being made by all the rganising comittee.

Unique South African sign language on stamps

The South African Post Office has issued a set of stamps on the 29th January 2010 “hand signs” for a unique South African sign language. Taxi hand signs have been dubbed South Africa’s 12th official language. This is because of the millions of commuters that use this unwritten language to indicate taxi drivers where they wish to go.
