When we were young, they were giants. The ten athletes from the realm of football who are immortalized on these stamps were admired by the masses, each in his specific era. Some of them played on the eve of Israel’s Independence and others in the early days of the State. Israeli football began back in the days of the Ottoman period, many years before the establishment of the State.

Milan Champion of Italy stamp issue from San Marino Post

This is the first team in the world in terms of the number of International titles won, but from the 2003-2004 football season the national victory was missing, and so Shield number 18, won on the field very early on with respect to the end of the championship, acquires an even more special meaning. A victory born from conviction, tenacity and the abnegation of a solid compact group. On the stamp the fans’ tribute to the San Siro stadium “lit” by the home colours.

One Hundred Years of Brescia Calcio commemorated on San Marino Stamps

The Republic of San Marino have  issued a stamp dedicated to the Centenary of the foundation of Brescia Football Club – Brescia Calcio: a philatelic issue to commemorate a historic event of major importance.
In 1911 Brescia football club was founded out of a merger between the football associations led by Franco Apollonio: namely, Victoria, Unione Sportiva Bresciana and Gimnasium.
The first Brescia football club team was entrusted to the technical guidance of Ettore Bacchelli.

100 Years of FC Austria Wien

The attractive design of this commemorative stamp, being issued on the occasion of the centenary of the Austrian football club, FK Austria Vienna, shows the club's emblem and photographic portraits of the four highly revered former captains, Luigi Hussak, Walter Nausch, Ernst Fiala und Herbert Prohaska.
The “Violets” as they are lovingly called after the team's colours, have been based in the Favoriten district of Vienna since 1973, and the club's history dates back to 1911, when the ” Wiener Amateur-Sportverein” (Viennese Amateur Sport Club) was founded by former players from the “Vienna Cricket and Football club” It has had its current name of Austria since the club became professional on 18th November 1926. As 23 times winners of the Austrian Championships and 27 times winners of the Austrian Cup, FK Austria Vienna is without a doubt one of the most successful Austrian football clubs. It has also enjoyed major international success, winning the “Mitropa Cup” in the 1930s, reaching the final of the European Cupwinners' Cup in 1978 and the semi-finals of the European Champions' League in 1979 and the European Cupwinners' Cup in 1983.

Now that the World Cup is over and the new World Cup Champions Spain, continue to enjoy their well deserved win at the competition, we take a look at the last Miniature Sheet and Sheetlet of stamps issued by South Africa Post paying tribute to the tournament.

In the past month, a transformative wave of patriotism and multiracial unity has enveloped South Africa, most outwardly visible in the deluge of national flags fluttering from cars and buildings.

More World Cup stamps as the competition enters its final stages

Magyar Posta is marking the 19th FIFA World Cup, which is to be held in the Republic of South Africa between 11 June and 11 July, by issuing a special stamp. This is the first time the event is being held in Africa and, after it has taken place, Oceania will be the only geographical region not to have organised the world championship.

 After the qualifiers, of the 204 countries entering the competition out of the 208 members of FIFA, 32 teams will vie for the world championship. They are Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cameroon, Chile, Côte d’Ivoire, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Honduras, Italy, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Paraguay, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa (host), Spain, Switzerland, Uruguay and the United States of America.

Spain issues a World Cup 2010 stamp

The XIX World Football FIFA Cup South Africa 2010 taking place from June 11 to July 11 will be held in ten different stadiums throughout South Africa and the final will be played in Johannesburg. 32 teams have qualified and will play in two classifying rounds.

The stamp depicts the official logo representing a football player over the map of the African continent in the colours of the South African flag.

Italy post has issued today a  new set of stamps to pay tribute to Inter de Milan FC winning the European Champions league last month

Football Club Internazionale Milano, commonly known as Internazionale or Inter, is an Italian professional football club based in Milan, Italy. Outside Italy, the club is sometimes called Inter Milan. Inter are the champions of Italy, their win in 2009-10 being a fifth successive title, equalling the all-time record.

World Cup stamps with a difference for Portugal

Another World Cup stamp has been issued and this time round by Portugal , a nation who has consistently performed well in football events during many years and is the birthplace of the most expensive player and mot expensive trainer in the World, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho…

However, the Portugal World Cup stamp is different to all others that have been issued for the South Africa World Cup. The stamp format for starters is round like a ball and the design depicts leopard skin within the image of a ball. The design will surely be liked by many and disliked by others but there is no doubt that Portugal has tried to be as innovative as possible with this stamp

NEW World Cup stamps

Finally World Cup fever is now in full force with the opening match being as exciting as everyone expected to be. Millions of people are now tuned to their TV’s around the globe watching the most exciting sporting event of the year. The first 2010 World Cup goal was scored by the home nation, South Africa in a historic match with the final result ending at 1 – 1

As predicted in our earlier posts, many countries will start issuing World Cup stamps during these two weeks and Croatia is the latest to do so…
