 Wadowice, small city of about 20,000 some 30 miles southwest of Krakov, has got international recognition as the birthplace of Pope John Paul II. Born in 1920 as Karol Wojtyla, the future Pontiff lived in Wadowice till 1938 when he moved to Krakow to study at its ancient Jagiellonian University. Yet to his last days the late Holy Father remembered fondly his Wadowice youth and places associated with it, the schoolmates, his teachers, and other local folks he had used to know. Also, he tried to include the town, when possible, in his visits to Poland.  (read more)

Ireland celebrates St Patrick’s day

St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland is one of Christianity’s most widely known figures. He was born in Britain to wealthy parents near the end of the fourth century. At the age of 16, Patrick was taken prisoner and transported to Ireland where he spent 6 years in captivity. During this time he worked as a shepherd before later escaping back to Britain.

One night he had a dream of a visit from an angel. The dream had such a profound impact on him that he returned to Ireland as a missionary where he worked to convert Irish people to Christianity. (read more)
