You can now vote for the most beautiful SEPAC stamp and, at the same time, take part in the draw for a €6000 prize! The competition runs from 6 May to 30 October 2010 on the SEPAC website “Small European Postal Administrations”. Votes may be cast on the SEPAC web site or at the exhibitions in which the SEPAC members take part throughout the world.
SEPAC has according to its own website 13 members the Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Greenland, Guernsey, Iceland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco, San Marino and Åland. The Sepac stamps aim to highlight the history, nature and culture of the member countries. (read more)
Heidi to be featured on Swiss Europa stamp

Heidi graces Europa stamp!
This year’s Europa stamp is dedicated to the children’s book Heidi. Since the novel was first published in the late nineteenth century, Johanna Spyri’s character Heidi has been a true international hit and has had a lasting impact on the image of Switzerland. A good reason then, for Swiss Post to dedicate a stamp to the little orphan girl Heidi. (read more)

Pinocchio makes it onto stamps

Pinocchio is a fictional character that first appeared in 1883, in The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi , and has since appeared in many adaptations of that story and others. (read more)

Europa themes announced for 2011 and 2012

Europa stamps have been issued annually since 1956 by European Postal Administrations. Initially stamps were a common design in all countries but since 1974 the designs have a common theme. The theme elected by Post Europe in 2009 is ‘Astronomy’. All stamps have Europa written on them. The common themes for the coming years Europa issues are as follows
2010: Children Books
2011: Forests – International year of forests
2012: Visit… (for instance “Visit Spain” or “Visit Ireland” etc.)

Europa stamps by Luxembourg

The artist selected by P&TLuxembourg to illustrate this theme is Luxembourg artist Muriel Moritz. Born in 1976 in Luxembourg, Muriel Moritz earned in 1999 a diploma in Illustration and Cartooning at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Bruxelles. Since 1996, she has developed a solid reputation as an illustrator of children’s books, schoolbooks, as well as for her exhibitions. Muriel Moritz organizes workshops for children at the Luxembourg summer academy (CEPA) and at the Kulturhuef Grevenmacher. EUROPA competition

Swedish stamps honor two female children’s book authors

Children’s Books is the theme for this year’s Europa stamps, which are issued by the members of the Posteurop postal organization. The Swedish stamps honor two female children’s book authors who are separated by three-quarters of a century but share similarities in their writing styles, Elsa Beskow (1874-1953) and Lena Anderson (1939-).
“I would say that Lena Anderson is a modern version of Elsa Beskow. Both want to entertain their readers while still teaching their young readers a lesson. They expertly weave together artistry, storytelling and pedagogics,” says Cecilia Östlund, senior librarian at the Swedish Institution for Children’s Books in Stockholm. (read more)

What are Europa CEPT stamps?

EUROPA stamps are special stamps issued by European postal administrations/ enterprises under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.
EUROPA stamps underlines cooperation in the posts domain, taking into account promotion of philately. They also build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals. As such, EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world.
Since the first issue in 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe’s desire for closer integration and cooperation. In 1993, PostEurop became responsible for issuing EUROPA stamps. (read more)

POST Greenland Issues the first seven Stamps of the Year

Contemporary Greenlandic visual art, children’s books, acting and aviation. The themes of the seven stamps issued by POST Greenland on 18th January cover a wide range.
