Special postal tributes celebrate iconic Canadians as part of Black History Month- Stamp issue

Canada Post issued two stamps today in celebration of Black History Month, highlighting the experiences and accomplishments of two remarkable Canadians: Viola Desmond and John Ware. The stamp designs combine a collage of historic elements used to give dimension to the lives of Desmond and Ware. A flattering portrait of Desmond is the central focus, with a photo of the famous New Glasgow Roseland theatre and her posthumous pardon granted in 2010 as silhouettes of significance. Ware’s life as a cowboy shines through with a rich portrait surrounded by icons of his life in the west including a photo of his ranch, a lasso, and a horse.

2012 UNITED NATIONS GUIDED TOURS NEW YORK PERSONALIZED STAMP SHEET

On 23 January 2012, UNPA has issued a personalized stamp sheet to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of United Nations Guided Tours. The sheet is composed of ten US$ 1.05 denominated stamps featuring photographs of the United Nations from the 1950’s until today with sites you might see on a UN guided tour. The tabs feature photographs of the tour guides.

The Bahamas – WWF Caribbean Flamingo- Stamp issue

This stamp issue, produced in association with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), illustrates the National Bird of the Bahamas.

Long ago, these beautiful birds were found all over the Bahamas, but they were killed for food and sport and taken away on passing ships on which they died. Now they are a protected species and watched over by the Society for the Protection of the Flamingo in The Bahamas through the Bahamas National Trust, a statutory body set up in 1959.

2012 CHINESE LUNAR CALENDAR YEAR OF THE DRAGON PERSONALIZED STAMP SHEET

On 23 January 2012, UNPA has issued a Chinese lunar calendar personalized stamp sheet celebrating the “Year of the Dragon”. This is the third year that UNPA has issued a Chinese lunar calendar sheet. The sheet is composed of ten $1.05 denominated stamps with the UN logo. The tab of the stamps features a zodiac symbol of a dragon. The background design on the sheet features the dragon illustrated by Mr. Huang Li (China).

Royal Mail’s epic kings & queen’s series reaches crowning moment in Jubilee year- Stamp issue

Royal Mail’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations for Her Majesty the Queen are launched by the first of three special Royal stamp issues on 2 February, 2012.

The House of Windsor Stamps feature the five monarchs from the start of the 20th century. The Queen takes pride of place on the final stamp of Royal Mail’s epic ‘Kings and Queens’ series, marking the 60th year of her reign, the second longest for a British monarch after Queen Victoria.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee – Accession

The young Princess Elizabeth was the first child of The Duke and Duchess of York who later became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Together with her sister Princess Margaret, who was born when Elizabeth was six years old, she enjoyed a quiet life with her family; they resided at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park and the four of them were very close.
